Put this date in your diary and come and join in the celebrations to commemorate the first occupation of houses on the Garden Suburb Estate 100 years ago.
To celebrate the success of Anchor Tenants Limited providing affordable housing, in a friendly environment, for 100 years an event is being organised on 12th July 2008.
In 2002 an event was organised to celebrate 100 years since the estate was first planned - the day was an enormous success with nearly every house on the estate being represented. Although the plans for this year are not so ambitious it is hoped that everyone will attend.
The event is being organised by the management committee. Lesley Osborne will be acting as the co-ordinator, telephone 2741536 - any ideas or offers of help will be greatly appreciated. Jean Bradshaw will be in charge of the exhibition, telephone 2762097 - if you have any photos or items of interest please contact Jean. Maybe you would like to write down some of your memories of living on the estate.
Full details will be issued in June but a brief outline of the programme is listed below. Mums and Dads with children look out for a letter inviting you and your children to a coffee morning on 8th June - this will give you the chance to meet other parents and get involved in creating your family tree.
At 2pm a short ceremony (involving estate children) will take place in the office garden to unveil a new plaque (the first plaque at 101/103 Keyham Lane was unveiled in July 1908.
MORNING EVENTS:- Starting at 10am
The competitions will be open to all ages - further details for entry to be issued in June
It is hoped that some residents will be brave enough to open their gardens for a couple of hours so residents can take a gentle stroll round the estate before the event starts. Many of you have gardens to be proud of - here is your chance to show them off. Some of you will have gardens where ‘work is in progress’ - why not let others see what you are trying to achieve? No garden is expected to be perfect but you have plenty of time to get to work! Perhaps this is the incentive you need!
